Competitiveness of international merchandise trade: The case of Poland

The aim of the article is to present possibilities that qualitative classifications industries and goods introduce analysis structural changes in economy, as well assess international competitiveness Polish merchandise trade long term. presents a review literature results authors’ own research on structure trade. study uses Lall’s classification which relatively innovative rarely used existing literature. By using this revealed comparative advantages (RCA) we also managed exports. shows since Poland’s accession European Union, terms its technological level has changed only slightly. After growth first years EU membership, share high technology products export stagnated 2010s was still lower than medium or low products. Throughout researched period, RCA for high-tech remained “foreign” side.
